Born and raised in the culturally vibrant city of Kolkata, my childhood unfolded within the warm embrace of a liberal Bengali middle-class joint family. In this nurturing environment, certain extracurricular activities were deemed essential for the holistic upbringing of children, and among them were learning Rabindra Sangeet and drawing. Following in the footsteps of my elder brother, I too found myself enrolled in drawing classes during my primary school days, even though the interest was not immediately apparent.
The turning point in my artistic journey arrived when I observed my father quietly appreciating my fledgling works. Though he rarely spoke about it, his silent moments of pause in front of the art board spoke volumes. As a child, those instances created ripples in my heart, igniting a spark of passion for painting that would later become a significant part of my life.
During my high school years, a pivotal figure entered my artistic narrative – a teacher whose influence ran deep and whose guidance steered me towards a more profound connection with my craft. Fueled by this newfound passion, I set my sights on higher studies in painting, envisioning a future immersed in the world of art.
However, life took an unexpected turn with the sudden demise of my father just before my senior secondary examination. This unforeseen event left me at a crossroads, prompting a recalibration of my plans. Despite the confusion, I made the pragmatic decision to pursue graduation in a general discipline while holding onto my fervent love for art.
Currently, I find myself navigating the delicate balance between a fulfilling day job that provides support and the wholehearted pursuit of my artistic passions. This dual existence, though challenging, is a testament to my commitment to both practical stability and creative expression.
In the tapestry of my life, each thread represents a unique chapter – from the cultural richness of Kolkata to the subtle encouragement of a father, the guidance of a teacher, and the unexpected twists that have shaped my journey. As I continue to paint the canvas of my life, I draw inspiration from these experiences, infusing my art with the depth and authenticity that only a personal journey can provide.
